Vice-Chair, Senior Home Support & COvid Vaccine Updates

Hi Everyone,

Happy Friday! A lot of things happening, I'll start with non-vaccination related updates first

1. Vice-Chair Application Extension to March 22nd

Our Primary Care Advisory Council has extended applications for the Vice-Chair role. I encourage you to consider applying. This is a tremendous opportunity to steer healthcare system change. You'll have your choice on taking the lead on one or more of the OHT initiatives including implementing SCOPE locally, centralizing mental health & addictions referrals, developing an inner city hub and seniors hub, and streamlining care transitions programs. Remuneration for the role is at $130/hr + HST. Application attached, please submit to emilielam@gmail.com.

2. Seniors Home Support Program

The Seniors Home Support Program is scheduled to launch in April and will be a first of its kind in integrating home-visiting family physicians, the the hospital, LHIN home & community care, community paramedics and geriatric outreach team to provide coordinated primary care to our housebound elderly. Markham FHT is the operational lead organization and Dr. Elizabeth Mui is the physician lead. Dr. Mui is looking for family physicians interested in home-based primary care to join her team. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in a Care of the Elderly Alternative Funding Plan (AFP) model. Job description attached, please feel free to circulate to anyone you think may be interested. Please direct questions to emui@msh.on.ca.

Now for COVID vaccine-related updates:

Vaccination for Ages 80+

- Ontario will have a province-wide booking system for March 15th

- York Region has chosen to go ahead on March 1st, please visit YRPH vaccine website for latest updates and keep an eye on your emails as communication on how residents ages 80+ can schedule will be coming out soon

- Until the province-wide booking system is live, each York region vaccination centre has their own booking system (ie. separate websites and phone lines)

- residents age 80+ must schedule in the Public Health Unit (PHU) in which they reside (eg. only York residents can register at Cornell, Southlake or Mackenzie)

- non-OHIP residents are eligible

- Cornell Community Vaccination Centre is tentatively scheduled to open March 3rd, pending confirmation of vaccine shipment

Vaccination for Healthcare Workers (HCW)

- All York Region primary care and community physician offices have been invited to submit themselves and their office staff for vaccination as part of the High Priority HCW group, see attached memo

- HCWs must either work or live in York Region

- Similar memos have gone out to other High Priority HCWs such as pharmacists, dentist, respiratory therapists, midwives

- Since Cornell opening is not finalized, I'd encourage you to submit your lists to Mackenzie and Southlake at this time

Vaccine Information

- The OCFP and UofT have developed an online educational module on COVID vaccine: https://www.dfcm.utoronto.ca/covid19-vaccination-modules

- Our very own Dr. Amanda Adams has partnered with https://www.19tozero.ca/ to help share facts and combat vaccine hesitancy via Instagram @covidvaccinefacts. Please follow and share. https://www.instagram.com/covidvaccinefacts/

Thanks everyone. These are exciting times and also busy days ahead as our vaccine roll out ramps up. Have a great weekend!
